Save your memories: Digitize your VHS tapes before it's too late!

Before the last VCRs are gone – the new package from MAGIX: "Rescue Your Videotapes!"

A spot visit to any entertainment electronics manufacturer or price comparison expert's homepage makes it clear: VHS recorders are becoming obsolete.(1) At the same time, videocassettes are becoming unusable due to mechanical and magnetic influences, too. "Recorders and cassettes are still available and usable. Consumers should use this window to rescue their favorite movies off of these VHS cassettes", advises Jürgen Jaron, chief executive of MAGIX AG. The "Rescue Your Videotapes!" package available from this Berlin company helps save and store your VHS treasures. Videos can be transferred from VHS onto PC and burned as a DVD or backed up as a video file. This also makes searching and sorting much easier, too. The included USB video converter with SCART adapter and extension cable connects the VCR to the PC and digitizes the video signal. On the PC, the MAGIX Movies on DVD 7 program records the signal, and then the material can be edited and burned to DVD/Blu-ray disc.

Conservation vs. quality loss
As the years go by, the image quality of your videocassettes will decrease. Due to magnetic influences during storage, the colors are washed out and the contours become blurry. In addition, the coating disintegrates as a result of playback and smudges off slowly, even if the whole tape hasn't "died" in a crumpled mess long before. For these reasons, it is highly advisable to preserve your tapes via digitization using suitable hardware and software like "Rescue Your Videotapes!" from MAGIX.

When a video is present in digital form, it can always be burned again and saved to various media storage devices like hard disks or online platforms. Thanks to DVD menus and removed advertising, your cinematic treasures or home videos on VHS can be enjoyed in more comfort than ever before.
(1) Comparison: According to our research, no cassette-only VCRs are being offered on the sites of Philips, Sony, Samsung, or Panasonic. The price comparison list "idealo.de" lists 261 DVD players, 42 DVD recorders, and 15 VCRs (as of 31.03.08).
