Tools

The selection tools in SpectraLayers Pro 4 allow for the precise editing of individual frequency ranges.

Selection

Selection

The Selection Tool offers four options: Rectangular, Elliptical, Time Range, and Frequency Range. Left-click and drag to create a Rectangular, Elliptical, or Time Range selection of any size.

To make a Frequency Range selection, click and drag over a frequency range of any height; releasing the mouse button will automatically expand the selection to cover the entire width of the spectral graph. Holding down the Shift key while you work allows you to create selections with any number of non-contiguous areas. Full-spectrum time range selections can also be made with the Time Cursor tool; simply hold down the Shift key and click-drag to create a selection.

Harmonics

Harmonics

The Harmonics Selection Tool is a hallmark SpectraLayers feature with enormous potential for making clean, complete selections of rich, complex material.

In the most basic scenario, the tool is utilized by selecting it and hovering over the fundamental tone of the material targeted for selection. The tool seeks upward from the fundamental, highlighting it as well as its associated harmonic overtone series. Simply click and draw over the fundamental tone to establish a selection that isolates the target and spans its entire harmonic spectrum. You can also use the new "Lock to Frequency" to do this.

Brush

Brush

The Brush Selection Tool allows you to paint selections directly in the spectral graph; simply select the tool, hold down the left mouse button, and start painting!

Your selection will be established upon releasing the button. Holding down the Shift key while you work allows you to create selections with any number of non-contiguous areas.

Frequency

Frequency

The Frequency Selection Tool can intelligently sense and trace any contiguous frequency band that runs through the spectral graph, even as its frequency changes over time.

To use it, select the tool, place it over a target frequency that winds through the spectral graph, and click/draw to establish a selection. Use the new "Lock to Frequency" feature to select the frequency faster.

Magic Wand

Magic Wand

The Magic Wand Selection Tool intelligently selects defined shapes on the spectral graph. To use it, select the tool and hold it over any shape, click once to establish a selection that spans an area defined by the Magic Wand’s customizable tip, or click-hold the left mouse button and draw to expand outward.

Release the mouse button to establish your selection. Holding down the Shift key while you work allows you to create selections with any number of non-contiguous areas.

Lasso

Lasso

The Lasso Tool allows you to freehand-draw shapes in the spectral graph. When you close a shape, the area inside it is selected.

The Polygonal Lasso Tool allows you to create selections with straight-line precision. Click once anywhere on the perimeter of your target selection in the spectral graph. Move the mouse and click to create straight lines that surround it. Establish a closed shape by double-clicking over the start point; the interior of the polygon will become selected.

Retouch Tools

The Amplify, Clone, and Erase tools in SpectraLayers Pro can be used to edit audio on any layer at any time. Access these options at any stage in the editing process to assist with critical repair and restore operations, creative sound design work, and fun experimentation. Tool behaviors can be modified in useful and interesting ways — use the controls located right above the spectral display to design your own brush tips.
