An integral studio component – the sequencer
A sequencer is an electronic device or a program for recording, playing back, and editing music.
Today, the sequencer is above all a component of music programs and is an integral part of the proccess to make music. The most important component of a sequencer on a PC is the digital score. This "virtual music sheet" utilizes MIDI to provide information about pitch, sound duration, and other aspects of the notes being played back as required. Audio tracks may also be synchronously recorded and played back.

With a sequencer, the user is capable of entering notes or transferring information to other instruments. Recording of notes and their parameters provide certain advantages when sequencers are used. The comparably smaller size of the data is quite advantageous. The greatest advantage of MIDI sequencers is that the sequence of sounds may be changed independent of the instrument just as easily as the instrument may be changed independent of the sound sequence.
